Course Selection

will take place on the University Information System beginning on September 4, 2000.

Enrolment System

Students select courses for the upcoming semester using the University's Information System.

Each student will be responsible for selecting their own courses and ensuring that they have a timetable that meets both the requirements of the English Department and their own personal needs. For your own benefit when scheduling, you need to keep the following things in mind:

  1. Meeting Department requirements as set out in the "Information for Students 2000/2001" handbook.
  2. Meeting Faculty requirements as set out in the "Studijní program".
  3. Select courses that do not conflict in terms of time. To this end, the complete Department schedule has been posted on the Bulletin Board and on the department web page. In addition it is possible to purchase a copy of the Department timetable for either the First or Second cycles.
  4. You should plan in advance and come to the computer with a draft schedule already prepared
  5. Make sure that you register for any compulsory exams which you must take or are planning to take in this coming semester:
  6. Do not register for courses for which you do not have the prerequisites, you will not be enrolled.
  7. For those courses which are offered in multiple sections, sections are listed separately. You may register for one section only. Again, do not schedule sections of two courses which are at the same time.
  8. Students in the Second Cycle who need/want to take a course from the First Cycle should see the course's teacher for instructions and permission. At this time it is not possible for First Cycle students to take Second Cycle courses.
  9. Even if a course has reached its limit in terms of the number of students (e.g. 15), you may still register for the course and then ask the teacher to approve your enrolment. Of course, the teacher may still decline to admit you to the course.
  10. Remember that if the limit for a seminar is 15 and 20 people have already registered, then there is not much point in registering since you will most probably not be enrolled.
  11. Please do not enrol in more courses than you intend to take (that is, enrol in 5 or 6 not 9 or 10). By keeping to this limit, you help everyone, including yourself.
  12. First Year students should enrol in their courses, but they are advised to wait until after September 25 in order to reduce stress in the system.
  13. During the registration period, please limit your use of the computers in the Department SAC to 30 minutes in order to allow your colleagues access.
  14. Any questions should be directed to Jeff Vanderziel during his office hours (see his door for details). He may or may not have the answers you're looking for!

Department Schedule

The schedule for all courses in either the First or Second Cycles may be purchased in the Department's Library/SAC for 5 crowns.

Department Booklet

The 2000/2001 academic year booklet is available for purchase in the Department's Library/SAC for 50 crowns.
