Study

All applicants for courses of Czech for foreigners have to file an application form directly to Department of Czech for foreigners (by fax or mail). (An application form is available for each course at the end of the page.)

The applicants for courses of Czech for foreigners are allowed to register for our Czech courses in the IS after they get an acknowledgment of acceptance for the study at the Department of Czech for foreigners and when they pass an entrance test.

Summer School of Slavonic (Czech) Studies

Programme of the Summer School

The Summer School of Slavonic Studies is organised by the Faculty of Arts. The core of the lessons is concentrated on five teaching hours in the morning and consists of an intensive language course, special seminars and lectures.

Three types of language courses are available

A Intensive course for complete beginners based on English or German.
B A course for pre-intermediate students - two hours of basic Czech, two hours of conversation and a one-hour special course each day; lessons are in Czech.
C A course for intermediate and advanced students - two hours of basic language instruction followed by a one-hour special seminar dedicated to translation and stylistics; two hours of Czech linguistics, literature, history, ethnography, etc.

In the afternoons, Summer School students can attend linguistics and literature seminars, informal seminars on music, history of art, history of Brno, etc. A special linguistic and literary seminar has been prepared for the most advanced students. The evenings are reserved for presentations of Czech films.

The programme also includes whole-day excursions to places of historical interest in the Czech Republic. For those interested, the Secretariat of the Summer School is prepared to organise individual work in archives and libraries or individual consultations with professors from the Faculty of Arts.

Organisation of the Summer School

The Summer School is open to holders of scholarships granted by the Czech Ministry of Education and Masaryk University, those funded by other cultural institutions as well as to paying participants.

Participants are accommodated in the university summer hotel. Breakfasts and lunches will be served at the university canteen.

For paying participants the fee for the four week course is CZK 31 400, which covers accommodation, meals and costs associated with excursions.

A registration fee of CZK 4900 is payable by 15 July. This should be transferred to the Summer School's following account /if you transfer the payment from EUR into CZK you should use a central exchange rate/:

The remainder may be either transferred to the same account or paid in cash (in CZK), after the participant's arrival at the Summer School, to the treasurer at the Summer School Office.

Conditions of admission

Since the number of places on the course is limited to about 150 participants. Some places are reserved for holders of scholarships granted by the Czech Ministry of Education on the basis of bilateral cultural agreements. Candidates for these scholarships should send their application to the Ministry of Education in their own countries.

The Secretariat will inform both holders of scholarships and paying participants whether they have been accepted, by 15 July at the latest.

Paying participants who have already arranged private accommodation in Brno may attend the Summer School for a reduced price: reduced price = tuition fees + meals + excursions -- CZK 24 250
