Practical Information

Travelling to Brno

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic. You can reach it by plane (from London and Munich), car, train or bus. The nearest international airports are in Prague (Czech Republic) and Vienna (Austria). Getting to Brno from these international airports is very simple. We will provide you with some recommendations, but you will find your way to Brno without any problem even if you do not follow them precisely.

How to get to Brno from the Prague airport :

  • There is a good bus connection between Prague airport and Brno operated by the RegioJet. Their yellow air-conditioned buses depart every hour (in rush hours even every half an hour).  You can book and manage your ticket online.
  • Another possibility is to get to the center of Prague (by taxi, airport charter buses, public transport) and take a bus from Praha-Florenc bus station (buses to Brno leave almost every half an hour) or a train (from the main railway station) to Brno. The journey from Prague city center to Brno takes less than 3 hours.

How to get to Brno from the Vienna airport :

  • Again, we recommend the service of RegioJet. From Vienna airport their buses depart every second hour. The trip to Brno takes 2 and a half hours.
  • You can also get a shuttle bus to Vienna Südbahnhof; in the morning and in the afternoon, there is a good train connection to the main Brno railway station almost every hour. The journey from Vienna airport to Brno takes about 3 hours in this case.

Getting around Brno

Once you are in Brno, there is nothing easier than to get to the places where the conference events will take place. You will find all the important places on our map (wwhich you will find here right after all the venues are confirmed and which will also be included in your conference package you will receive at the registration).

Most of the conference venues will be at a walking distance from the Česká stop in the city center. When taking a tram or bus, do not forget to buy a “15 minute ticket“ (20 CZK) or a “60 minute ticket” (25 CZK, i.e. about 1 EUR) and validate it as soon as you get on the tram by inserting it into a yellow slot machine. You will find ticket vending machines at almost every stop, make sure you have your change as they accept coins only. You can also buy your tickets at most news stands.

Accommodation

We recommend two hotels with a special conference discount:

Continental Hotel Brno (https://www.continentalbrno.cz/?lang=en, GMAP) situated in the city center and at a walking distance from the conference venue. The price for a night and one person including breakfast (Economy room) is 1350 CZK (cca 54 euros). Pre-reservation is available until 30th June 2018 and is limited to 40 Economy rooms (please reserve your room as soon as possible). To receive the conference discount price, please do not use any booking platform and contact the hotel directly via email info@continentalbrno.cz or telephone +420 541 519 516 and use the codeword HNR2018.

Hotel Garni Vinarska (https://www.skm.muni.cz/hotel/garni-vinarska?en, GMAP). This hotel is further away from the conference venue but with a good public transport connection. The price for a night and one person including breakfast is 1000 CZK (cca 40 euros), the price for two people sharing a double room including breakfast is 1400 CZK (cca 56 euros). Pre-reservation is available until 30th June 2018 and is limited to 30 double rooms (please reserve your room as soon as possible). To receive the conference discount price, please do not use any booking platform and contact the hotel directly via email hotel.vinarska@skm.muni.cz or telephone +420 549 49 2705 and use the codeword HNR2018.

Restaurants

No need to plan your meals in advance! The city center is full of restaurants. There are several restaurants near all the sites where the conference will take place. We will gladly share our gastronomic experience with you, as will our student assistants.

We particularly recommend these places:

  • Stopkova Plzeňská Pivnice (https://www.kolkovna.cz/en/stopkova-plzenska-pivnice-16) is situated in the city center and at a walking distance from the conference venue. This restaurant offers a traditional Czech cuisine and serves quality Pilsner beer. The staff speaks English fluently.
  • Siam Thai (http://www.siamthai.cz/en/) is situated in the proximity of the Faculty of Arts. If you want to have a quick lunch with exotic flavors during the conference, Siam Thai is the right place. In this restaurant, they hire only Thai chefs in order to bring excellent gastronomic experience and introduce Thai cuisine.
  • Bistro Franz ("http://www.bistrofranz.cz/cs/) is a family bistro located at Veveří 14 street near the conference venue. Bistro Franz offers dishes prepared exclusively from local and seasonal products. This place is also suitable for breakfast.
  • La Bouchée (http://www.labouchee.cz/en/) is a classy restaurant located right under the Špilberk castle. La Bouchée is inspired by French cuisine and the staff will always recommend you a good wine to pair with your high quality dish.
  • Suzies (http://www.suzies.cz/pizzeria-brno/index.html) is an Italian restaurant located at Údolní 4 near the conference venue. They serve delicious Italian pizza and pasta within a reasonable price range.
  • Namaskar (http://www.namaskar.cz/en/) is a restaurant serving authentic Indian cuisine. Namaskar is located the city centre on Smetanova 341/3.
  • U Čápa (http://www.restauraceucapa.eu/) is a traditional Czech pub and restaurant located in the proximity of the Faculty of Arts. Similarly to Stopkova Plzeňská Pivnice they offer traditional Czech dishes and quality beer at a reasonable price.
