E-learning at the Faculty of Arts

CIT provides support services for the faculty course management system Elf. Petr Sudický, Libor Juhaňák, Lenka Beláňová and Daniel Mikšík are responsible for the support.

Information about the system, documentation, user support

There is a course available in ELF for teachers, supplying information about the main features of Elf.

The course and the documentations pager are available only in Czech, English-speaking users, however, can make use of the official Moodle online documentaion.
Questions can be raised in the discussion forum Dotazy/návrhy or sent by e-mail to It is also recommended to follow the Recent News (Aktuální zprávy) forum.

Support for teachers

Besides the standard technical support, the team of the E-learning Office can also provide consultations on methodology of e-learning solutions and possibilities of personalization of various ELF tools according to the needs of particular subjects. The teachers are also welcome to ask for help with data processing in courses (building of glossaries, quizzes, etc.).

Basic overview of services offered:

  • Methodological support – consultation of teacher’s requirements, design of possible solutions.
  • Basic course settings and its structure guidance.
  • Unification of different file types into one format (e.g. PDF), uploading files into courses, creating links to files for different course topics.
  • Basic editing of multimedia files such as dividing long videos into segments, transforming different types of multimedia files into one format suitable for Moodle, uploading multimedia files into the courses.
  • Preparation of complex study materials in the Book and Lecture modules. Help with formatting and editing study materials in the courses.
  • Consultation on the possibility of using glossaries and databases, design of a glossary/database, importing large amounts of data, design and creation of complex individual solutions using the Database module.
  • Demonstration of the possibilities of surveys and questionnaires in courses, help with their set up.
  • Consultation on types of assignments that are suitable for the needs of teachers in a particular course. Explanation of possibilities of mutual reviewing of student’s assignments, advanced set up of the Workshop module, support during the workshop administration.
  • Help with the creation and setup of tests/quizzes, advice on the usability of different types of questions in a concrete situation, testing in PC labs and security settings. Methodological support for language testing in the online environment.
  • Consultation on using mobile technologies in academic environment and their integration to studying and teaching processes.
  • Methodological and technical support for the creation of tutorials using screen capture, sound and video.

The above mentioned list comprises only the basic services offered; it is, of course, possible to arrange a specific solution for the individual needs of an individual course.

Training and workshops

Every semester, the team of the E-learning Office organizes a series of workshops focusing on Moodle and other e-learning tools. Up-to-date information about the workshops can be found on ELF main page, in the teacher course, in the monthly newsletter, on the faculty website and on print-out posters and leaflets round the faculty (when relevant).
In addition, workshops and presentations for small groups can be organized upon request, covering various topics of Moodle use (activity modules, course administration, etc.) for both teachers and students who help with the course preparation.

Stipend programme for students

It is possible to use a stipend programme for students who are helping with preparation, improvement and administration of e-learning courses in ELF. More information about  the programme can be found on the programme website FA MU Stipend programme.
