Formatting styles used in the Department of English and American Studies.

General Information

All the essays and written tasks assigned by the Department (including the minor thesis and diploma thesis) are subject to high academic and formal requirements. The student chooses an appropriate style guide for their thesis (MLA Style Manual is highly recommended). The thesis can be successfully submitted only when it complies with the formatting rules (font size, indentation, spacing etc.) and citation guidelines (magazines, books, internet and other sources) as specified by the chosen style guide.

MLA Style

MLA Style (Modern Language Association Style) is one of the most popular citation styles for the English language in the field of humanities and as such it is the recommended style at the Department of English and American Studies.  It is respected by all members of our academic staff and it is highly recommended for all essays as well as the minor theses and diploma theses written in the Department. For more information visit the MLA website or the website here.
