Department Profile

The Department of Educational Sciences is the one of the Faculty of Arts´ departments with a long academic tradition. In its activities, the Department is building on the work of its founders, the educators-professors O. Chlup and J. Uher who instituted the site at the Brno University between the 2 world wars.

The Department´s educational activity is currently aimed in three directions: the teaching of education as a social science being the first, the field of social education and counseling being the second and lifelong learning including both special education and school management studies, the third. As a relatively independent section of educational activity, the Department also provides additional teacher training. All the available types of studies are designed and organized in accordance with the Bologna declaration.

In addition, the Department acts as training centre for doctoral studies in education. Preparation, support and major involvement in both national and international research and development projects are further activities. At the moment projects from the following areas are in progress: co-operation between parents and school, school culture, programs for probationary university teachers, innovation in the job of teaching, and teacher training (Socrates Program, Comenius).
