The course is designed for mentor teachers who would like to refine how they conduct post-lesson discussions with student teachers. The course will introduce mentors to the part of the pre-service teacher curriculum that focuses on lesson planning, including the formulation of lesson aims and objectives. Understanding what student teachers are expected to learn and demonstrate in this area will help mentors adjust their expectations and tailor their mentoring practices accordingly. We will explore how lesson planning and aims and objectives formulation connect to the pre-service teacher competence framework and how these concepts can be used to guide post-lesson reflection. We will focus on strategies for providing feedback that is descriptive, formative, and firmly grounded in evidence from the classroom. Throughout the session, we will work with real-life mentoring situations and practical techniques to keep feedback constructive, evidence-based, and focused on supporting learning and development.

The course is interactive and focuses on the practical realities of mentoring student teachers in English language classrooms. It combines short input from the lecturer, guided discussion, the analysis of typical post-lesson scenarios, pair and small-group work, and hands-on practice in formulating evidence-based and formative feedback. Participants will examine examples of lesson plans and lesson aims and objectives, explore their relationship to the pre-service teacher competence framework, and consider how these areas can be incorporated into reflective mentoring conversations.
