Measures of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University No. 2/2020 MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME OF THE FACULTY OF ARTS, MASARYK UNIVERSITY (as amended with effect from 1 November 2022) Pursuant to Section 28(1) of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Additions to Other Acts (the Higher Education Act), as amended (hereinafter referred to as “the Act”), I issue the following Measure: Section 1 Introductory provisions For the purposes of this Measure, a role or function referred to in masculine nouns or pronouns shall be understood as being in the “generic masculine” and can be performed by persons of any gender, i.e.: a) “dean” means a dean of any gender, b) “vice-dean” means a vice-dean of any gender, c) “bursar” means a bursar of any gender, d) “student” means a student of any gender, e) etc. Section 2 Scholarship programme specifications The merit scholarship programme (hereinafter referred to as the “scholarship programme”) is announced by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University (hereinafter referred to as “FF MU”) in accordance with the provisions of Section 3(1)(b) of the Masaryk University Scholarship and Bursary Regulations. Section 3 Purpose and duration of the scholarship programme (1) The purpose of the merit scholarship programme is to motivate faculty students to achieve excellent academic results and to reward them in a stimulating way. (2) The scholarship programme is hereby announced for an indefinite period starting from the moment this measure enters into effect. Section 4 Source of funding for the scholarship programme The source of funding for scholarships is the faculty’s scholarship fund. Section 5 Conditions for awarding a scholarship A student will receive a merit scholarship if the following conditions are met: a) they are a student of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at the FF MU in the full-time study mode; b) in the semester under evaluation, the student has obtained more than 30 credits (excluding recognized credits) in the given study programme; c) the overall average for the study was in the range of i. 1.0 to 1.2 and at the same time the student’s performance is among the top 10% of students in the programme, or ii. 1.21 to 1.4 and at the same time the student’s performance is among the top 10% of students in the given study programme; d) the student has not been awarded a grade of F, N, or X (including in recognized courses) during the course of study; e) as of the date of data collection, the student has not exceeded the standard period of study for the programme; f) as of the date of data collection, they have no outstanding fees for studies in current or past programmes studied at the FF MU. The database and indicators available in the IS MU are used for data collection. Section 6 Amount of scholarship (1) The amount of the scholarship is subject to: - under Section 5(c)(i) of this measure CZK 6,000, - under Section 5(c)(ii) of this measure CZK 3,000. (2) The merit scholarships awarded in a single scholarship round pursuant to Section 7(1) may be reduced up to a maximum of 50% of the amount set out in paragraph 1 of this section, provided that there would be a significant decrease in the balance of the Faculty’s scholarship fund during the period in question, taking into account the forecast of its development and the collection of funds for its creation, as well as the internal composition of the scholarship fund. Section 7 Data collection, scholarship award and payment (1) Data collection and awarding of scholarships takes place twice a year, each time after the blocking of grades for the semester being evaluated. (2) The scholarship is paid in one lump sum and is awarded automatically without any request from the student. In the event that a student has completed a study placement (e.g. Erasmus) in the previous semester and has not fulfilled the condition under Section 5(b) of this Measure (while fulfilling all other conditions), the student may submit an individual application during the current semester. (3) The scholarship award decision is made in electronic form and has a digital signature. The decision is delivered to the student via the IS MU Office. (4) The fulfilment of the conditions referred to in Section 5 shall be assessed separately for each study programme. A student who fulfils the conditions under Section 5 in more than one study programme at the same time is entitled to a scholarship in each programme separately. (5) Payment of the scholarship is made in one lump sum after the decision becomes legally binding to the bank account specified by the student in IS MU. Section 8 Merit scholarship for graduating classes A merit scholarship may also be awarded to students in the final year of their Bachelor’s and follow-up Master’s studies, i.e. for the semester in which the students take the state final examination. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of an application submitted by the student to the FF MU office for studies no later than the end of the application period for the state final examination in the relevant semester (according to the current timetable). By this date, students must have fulfilled all their obligations or must meet the relevant conditions for the award of the scholarship. Section 9 Final provisions (1) This measure repeals the FF MU Measure No. 2/2022 Merit Scholarship Programme of 17 January 2020, effective from 17 January 2020. (2) This measure follows the Masaryk University Scholarship and Bursary Regulations. (3) The inspection, interpretation, and updating of this Measure is carried out by the vice-dean for Bachelor’s and follow-up Master’s study affairs. (4) The faculty bursar controls the use of funds for the purpose of merit scholarships. (5) This measure shall enter into force on the date of signature.
