Directive of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University No. 1/2024 AWARD OF THE DEAN OF THE FACULTY OF ARTS OF MASARYK UNIVERSITY FOR OUTSTANDING EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY In accordance with § 28 (1) of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Supplements to Some Other Acts (the Higher Education Act), as amended (hereinafter referred to as "the Act"), I issue the following Directive: Section 1 Subject Matter (1) This Directive regulates the conditions and rules of granting the Award of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University for Outstanding Educational Activity. (2) For the purposes of this Directive, a role or function referred to in the form of a generic masculine means a role or function performed by persons of different gender, i.e.: (a) "Dean" means a dean of any gender, (b) "Vice-dean" means a vice-dean of any gender, (c) “academic staff member” means an academic staff member of any gender, (d) "guarantor" means a guarantor of any gender, (e) etc. Section 2 Award of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University for Outstanding Educational Activity (1) Each academic year, the Dean of the faculty announces a competition for the Award of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University for Outstanding Educational Activity (hereinafter referred to as the "Award"). (2) The Award is intended for academic staff members and lecturers of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. (3) The Award recognises outstanding educational activity, significant innovation in education, unconventional didactic practices or teaching aids, etc., with emphasis on specific educational achievements. The Award may also be given for long-term teaching of high quality that exceeds the normal faculty average, exemplifies good practice in education and contributes to the spread of the faculty's good reputation. (4) Along with announcing the competition for the Award, the Dean sets a deadline for accepting proposals. (5) Together with the announcement of the competition, the Dean determines the period for which the Award is granted. (6) The proposal is typically submitted by the guarantor of the degree programme in which the staff member works but may also be submitted by the Head of the Department. The proposal must include a proper justification. (7) The Award may also be withheld. (8) The Dean appoints a committee of at least three members to evaluate the individual proposals and make a recommendation to the Dean for granting the Award. (9) Each of the awarded will receive a certificate and a cash prize. The amount of the financial reward will be determined by the Dean at the same time as the announcement of the individual round of the competition. Section 3 Proposal for Granting the Award (1) The proposal for granting the Award is sent to the Dean's Secretariat in electronic form by means of a completed form, its template is attached as Annex no. 2 to this Directive. (2) The proposal shall include identifying details of the nominee and a brief description of their outstanding educational activity. (3) The proposal shall also include a written rationale (a description of the activity or activities that make the proposed person's teaching career exceptional). The rationale may be supported by feedback from the course opinion poll which demonstrates the validity of the application for the Award. Section 4 Final Provisions (1) Financial requirements are governed by the relevant general rules. (2) The Vice-dean for Teacher Training Programmes and Life-long Education of the FF MU is responsible for monitoring compliance with this Directive and its interpretation. (3) This Directive shall enter into force on the date of signature. (4) This Directive shall enter into effect on the date of publication on the public part of the FF MU website.
