Horizon Europe
Horizon Europe is the European Commission’s (EC) new framework programme for research and innovation. It builds on the previous Horizon 2020 framework programme (H2020) and will run from 2021 to 2027.
FP Horizon Europe has three main objectives: (1) to strengthen the European Research Area (ERA) and hence Europe’s research and technology base, (2) to boost Europe’s innovation capacity, competitiveness, and labour market, and (3) to focus on the priorities of EU citizens and promote European values.
The programme is divided into three pillars. The first pillar focuses on excellent science (ERC, MSCA and Research Infrastructures). The second pillar focuses on global challenges and the competitiveness of European industry (JRC and six thematic clusters). The third pillar focuses on the concept of an innovative Europe (EIC, EIT, and ERA).
The main target group is individual researchers or research teams working in universities, research institutes, or companies.
Programme structure
ERC
Support for frontier research from novice to established scientists or research teams. Projects are generally five years in duration. Financial support ranges from EUR 1.5–10 million (depending on the individual competition).

MSCA
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions aim to develop excellence through the cross-border mobility of researchers across sectors and disciplines. The mobility of researchers within or outside Europe is supported to facilitate their pursuit of excellent research, develop their skills and careers, and expand their networks in academia and beyond (including in research infrastructures).

Calls within Cluster 2 - Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society
The activities of this pillar aim to develop key technologies and solutions that will support the implementation of European policies, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. It will require bringing together end-users, scientists, technologists, manufacturers, educational institutions, policymakers, citizens, and civil society organizations. The specific priorities of each cluster are divided into so-called intervention areas. Within Cluster 2, these are (1) Democracy and Governance, (2) Cultural Heritage, and (3) Socio-Economic Transformation.
