The Czech Science Foundation (GA CR), in collaboration with the Israeli Science Foundation (ISF), has launched a call for proposals for joint Czech-Israeli research projects. The call operates on the ‘Lead Agency’ principle, with the evaluation process being carried out by the Israeli side. Funding is available for three-year projects scheduled to commence in 2028.
The call for proposals opened on 8 September 2026. The Czech part of the project proposal may be submitted via the GRIS system by 18 November 2026 at the latest (the deadline for the Israeli side is 10 November 2026). The Czech proposer must create the project under the call ‘Lead Agency – Partner Organisation – 2028 – Israel (ISF)’. Three-year projects will be supported, and the duration of the project must be the same for all participating research teams.
The lead Israeli proposer must pre-register in the ISF electronic proposal submission system by 28 October 2026 at the latest. This requirement does not apply to Czech proposers. All Israeli proposers must also have an ORCID identifier. A maximum of four proposers may be involved in the project on the Israeli side. For a proposal to be successfully included in the evaluation process, it must be submitted by both parties to the collaboration: by the Israeli proposer to the ISF and by the Czech proposer to the GA CR. If the two applications are not matched, the project will not be included in the evaluation.
Please note that projects submitted under this call will count towards the maximum number of project proposals submitted under calls with an expected start date in 2028, but not towards the limit for calls with a start date in 2027. It is therefore highly likely that, across all LA calls for projects due to start in 2028, it will only be possible to submit one project proposal (either as a principal investigator or a co-investigator).
We would therefore like to remind that each proposer or co-proposer may submit a maximum of one project proposal commencing in a given year in each of the following categories:
1) Standard projects, International projects and LA grants
2) JUNIOR STAR and EXPRO
3) POSTDOC INDIVIDUAL FELLOWSHIP and Return Grants
In the event of success in multiple open competitions/calls that permit the submission of multiple project proposals, only one of these projects may be carried out.
The published call, including the tender documentation, can be found on the GA CR website.
