Variation fantasy: ŠTĚDROŇ 2025

  • 3 October 2025
    6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Concert hall (N21), Janáčkovo nám. 2a, Brno

Two concerts, a documentary exhibition and a retrospective recording - all this will be offered this autumn by the ŠTĚDROŇ 2025 project, which commemorates the legacy of composer Vladimír Štědron (1900-1982) and musicologist Bohumír Štědron (1905-1982). On the occasion of the 125th and 120th anniversaries of their births, it brings their work back into the spotlight and reveals their family story against the backdrop of the broader context of Czech modern music.

Both concerts will take place in venues imaginatively linked to both brothers' work and teaching. The first will take place on Friday, 3 October at 6 pm in the concert hall of the Department of Musicology at the Faculty of Arts MU, the second on Monday, 6 October at 6:30 pm in the Martinů Hall at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. The environment shaped their professional careers. Today symbolically becomes a space for turning over their legacy to a live performing and academic context.

Leading personalities of the Czech performance scene will perform: pianist Ivo Kahánek, mezzo-soprano Bella Adamova, clarinettist Anna Paulová and the Wihan Quartet. The programme will offer a selection of chamber music by Vladimír Štědron, set in a dramaturgical dialogue with the works of Leoš Janáček, Bohuslav Martinů and Josef Suk. Prof. Miloš Štědroň will introduce both eveningsň, and the Brno concert will feature an exceptional guest performance by the vocal octet OctOpus Vocalis. Free admission.

The project is supported by the State Fund for Culture, the Statutory City of Brno, the Leoš Janáček Foundation, the Život umělce Foundation and OSA. The CD recording is published with the kind permission of Czech Radio and SUPRAPHON, a.s.
