Swedish Christmas concert
-
9 December 2025
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM - Červený kostel, Komenského nám., Brno
This year, the Brno SIST Choir continues the renewed traditions of popular Christmas concerts. This year's event will be held on Tuesday, December 9, in a Protestant church (similar to those in Sweden), and as usual, in the Red Church on Comenius Square.
Get ready for the mysterious atmosphere of a long winter night, enhanced by candlelight and beautiful (perhaps not only) Nordic music. The whole concert will be in the spirit of celebrating the feast of St. Lucia. The choir will perform songs celebrating Lucia, as well as Swedish Christmas songs.
This year again you will also be able to look forward to the magical sound of the nyckelharpa, a traditional Swedish musical instrument, played by Greybeard (Šedovous), a guest of the SIST Swedish Choir.
In addition to listening to music, you will also have the opportunity to try genuine Swedish Christmas pastries, which will be available for tasting and purchase at the entrance. A songbook of popular Swedish Christmas songs from the SIST repertoire will also be available for purchase. Proceeds will be used to rent the space and support the choir.
Admission is voluntary.
Swedish choir SIST was founded in the spring of 2009 by a student of music science, Kateřina Rašíková, under the subject "Swedish in songs" at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. The members are mainly the Faculty of Arts' students who have completed at least one semester of Swedish. The choir is occasionally accompanied by keys, flute, violin, clarinet, or other instruments. The choir also repeatedly participated in the IKEA and Avion events, and participated in the traditional celebration of St. Lucia's celebrations organised by the Nordic Society and performed at Midsommarfest in Brno, and the chamber choir will perform at the Swedish Embassy in Prague on the occasion of the celebration of the feast of St. Lucia.
