This year, the second week of July at the Institute of Classical Studies was dedicated to a suburban camp aimed at primary school pupils. Participants had the opportunity to learn about various aspects of life in ancient Rome. Divided into four groups representing prominent Roman families — the Aemilii, Cornelii, Iulii and Servii — the children made their own tunics, learnt to read and write in Old Roman cursive script, mastered Roman numerals, built houses for the lares, created beautiful mosaics and tasted Roman pastries and the famous fish sauce (garum). They even underwent military training with minimal loss of life!
