Marigold, cucumber, and chive seeds will help people in need
Sow seeds in the garden and help people in need. The Faculty of Arts MU is also participating in the Plant Help project this year. Students, academics, and employees can plant seeds on the faculty grounds or take them home.
The seeds can be picked up at the red counter of the Faculty of Arts MU library from Friday, March 13, during the library's regular opening hours. "The seeds are meant to bring joy to everyone, and anyone can take them without necessarily contributing. If, when looking at the grown plants, people remember those in need and make a donation, we will be very happy. Donations can be made throughout the year in several ways: using the QR code on the seed bag or via the payment gateway on the website," said Věra Švejdová from the Diocesan Charity of Brno. She added that on Wednesday, March 18, people can also contribute in cash or by payment card at charity stands in the centre of Brno – on Česká Street and Mendlovo Square.
This year, the seeds were donated by SEMO. They include lettuce, pickling cucumbers, marigolds, and chives. The collection will run through the end of March, but cashless contributions are accepted year-round. "This year, the proceeds from the collection will go to support the debt counselling centre of the Brno Regional Charity, which helps people navigate difficult financial situations, prevent foreclosures, and find their way back to a dignified and stable life," added Švejdová.
This year is the third year of the project, and the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University is participating for the second time. "What we can safely say about last year's edition is that it was a very pleasant surprise. The idea of betting to help appealed to many people and was popular across generations. We received wonderful feedback from everyone who helped us with the collection. If you want financial results, as of April 1, 2025, the proceeds from collections were CZK 59,432. But as I mentioned, you can contribute online at any time during the year, so as of May 2, the amount was already CZK 82,952," Švejdová specified.
