Description In the core of the paper lies the fundamental question of how some Manchu-Tungusic and Old Japanese verb morphology correspondences can be explained. Both Japanese and Manchu-Tungusic scholarship views some of the verbal suffixes as relics of former auxiliary verbs. The paper addresses the obvious ressemblances and subjugates the results of the comparative analysis to a critical reassessment, with the aim to draw typological and possibly also etymological conclusions.
