Description The town of Vyškov was a lightly fortified economic centre of a group of episcopal estates and fiefs in the area. The town was destroyed by a Hussite attack in 1423, and was restored together with town walls that adjoined a bishop´s castle (later a chateau) approximately after 1440. The fortification from the pre-Hussite era is unknown as no archaeological research took place. The post-Hussite fortification consisted of a main town wall with free gate towers and defence areas in front of them. There was no bailey, and a ring of an earthwork fortification only came into existence on a rampart between double mops as late as the 17th century. A stream flowed trough the moat in the south, while in the north-east the access to the town was obstructed by the Haná River and in the south-east it was protected by a pond. The fortification ceased to exist in the 19th century.
