Description It is widely known that learning a second language means acquiring communicative competence in this language, which means that students need to learn phonetics, morphology and syntax but also linguistic variation, pragmatics, non-verbal language, etc. Having this in mind is crucial when teaching a language out from its linguistic domain, as in the case of the students of Catalan at Masaryk University. A good tool for doing so might be TV, especially some TV productions, that reflect language variation as it is.
