Description Paper deals with life of the prominent condotiere and warrior Jan Sokol. He began his career in Italy and before the end of the 14th century he joined the wars between Margraves Jošt and Prokop. He served King Wenceslas IV. and the Austrian Dukes, defended Znojmo from the Austrian and Hungarian armies and the city of Laa, which he seized. On the Polish-Lithuanian side he fought at the Battle of Grunvald in 1410 and died of poisoning in Poland.
