Description The introduction to the first part of the collective monograph of Bishop Karl von Lichtenstein-Castelcorno (1624-1695) discusses some of the essential circumstances behind the bishop's building activities. These were (a) contemporary demands for an artistic role (comfort-commoditas and personal taste-gusto), then (b) two patterns of building activity (archbishop of Salzburg and imperial Vienna), and finally (c) the three bishops' roles with which he approached construction activity (secular prince, ecclesiastical dignitary and administrator of the diocese).
