| Description | In a set of eight lectures, I focused on a theoretical introduction to phonetics and phonology. In the lectures I discussed what phonetics deals with and what phonology is, what is the difference between these linguistic disciplines. I also dealt with phonetic transcription and phonetic alphabet, speech organs, syllable structure, sonority scale, phonetic inventory = vowels and diphthongs, Dutch consonants in comparison with Czech and also suprasegmental phonetics and phonology and especially the issue of word stress. The series of lectures was designed for the students of Dutch at the Charles University in Prague. |
