Description This paper describes the semantic-functional space encoded by the constructions of contemporary Sicilian involving aviri a, putiri, sapiri and vuliri. In particular, reference will be made to two intimately related functional domains: participant-oriented modality and directivity. The corpus of analysis is made up of the ethno-texts and the Sicilian blocked code productions of the socio-variable section of the Atlante Linguistico della Sicilia (ALS), as well as the answers to the translation questions (Italian/Sicilian, Sicilian/Italian). The articulation of the sample of informants also makes it possible to observe any differences in usage linked to these sociolinguistic variables and to "embody" the analysis of the constructions in the uses of the speakers.
