| Description | The article takes a closer look at the municipal politics of the city of Brno and, based on research of available sources, examines the fates and relationships of three men at the helm of Brno city hall in the years 1945–1949, i.e. at the beginning and during the consolidation of communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Among other things, the author addresses the question of the political significance and stability of the office of the highest representative of a large city in new political and social conditions and their interaction within the framework of internal political struggle and within the framework of the transformation of the Communist Party into a ruling component of the state and society. Questions of prestige, identity and their symbols are likewise explored. |
