| Description | School is an important vehicle for the dissemination of linguistic norms thanks to the shaping power exercised by authors of teaching materials and teachers, authoritative figures responsible for teaching “good Italian.”The study presented in this volume describes a survey that involved 345 students and 17 teachers from nine schools in the Bologna and Modena areas. The research explores, through the analysis of school assignments, teachers' corrections, and grammar textbook guidelines, the position of today’s schools regarding non-standard morphosyntactic features that are, however, spreading in moderately formal language. Thanks to the privileged vantage point offered by schools, the study investigates the spread of linguistic innovations in formal contexts through the writing of new generations, who are famously promoters of linguistic change, and portrays the encounter between young writers’ perception of norms and that of adults entrusted with the task of teaching how to write correctly. |
