Description This paper analyzes linguistic shifts and transformations in the Russian localization of the text component of the Czech video game Last Train Home, created by the Brno-based studio Ashborne Games. The game deals with the return of Czechoslovak legionnaires across Siberia during the Russian Civil War between the Red and White armies. The player takes on the role of the commander of an armored train, ensuring the leadership of the unit, the management of limited resources, and the maintenance of morale in the extreme climatic conditions of the Russian winter. The narrative and atmospheric level of the game is closely linked to the historical context. English is the lingua franca of the gaming industry, so the Russian localization was not based on the Czech language version, but on the English version. This contribution raises the question of linguistic shifts that occur when translating via a third language. The analysis is based on specific examples from Russian video game text and compares them with the Czech version, examining their impact on the meaning and style of the game's message.
