Description Local and Global in Cosmological Principles How is it possible to explore the entire universe when we are tied to one place? Plato and Aristotle are the protagonists of two opposing lines that persist to the present cosmology and represent principled attitudes and methods of exploration. Is it possible to learn about the universe from one place, to apply our knowledge of the local world to distant regions, or is it necessary to discover, with the help of some ingenious insight, a universal theory covering all of reality? The search for answers to these and similar questions has always been connected with the effort to know and understand the place and role of man in the universe, to reveal the laws of their interaction, or even to deal with the ultimate question of meaning.
