| Description | The study examines the impact of documentary films on public opinion, the level of public engagement, and their influence on political change, as demonstrated through the films An Inconvenient Truth (2006), The Invisible War (2012), and Picture a Scientist (2020). By analysing a case study of the Czech documentary film Caught in the Net (2020), this study subsequently examines how a documentary film can distort reality yet still be perceived as an accurate representation of a social phenomenon. The article presents a debate on whether documentary film is merely a work of art that should not be limited, or if it is also an influential voice in the arena of social debate bearing accountability for shaping public opinion. The study builds upon a contribution to the Conference on Ethics in Documentary Film at Ji.hlava IDFF in 2024. |
