Description This presentation focuses on the linguistic perspective of video games as a medium. The central theme is the process of localization (L10n), with an emphasis on the specifics of translating from English into Slavonic languages, which is complicated by differences in morphology and technical limitations such as text fragmentation and the need for so-called blind translation, i.e., translation without visual context. Variables that replace specific values in sentences pose a significant challenge. Another key area is system texts, which must adhere to gender neutrality, as they are addressed directly to players whose gender is unknown to the translator. The entire issue is set in the context of research at the Institute of Slavonic Studies.
