Description This article investigates the Venetian manuscript Ambrosiana C 214 inf. (1372–1373), which preserves the volgarizzamento of Livy’s First Decade. It explores the codex’s material features, its rich visual apparatus, and marginal annotations, highlighting an active reading and intellectual appropriation process. The study focuses on the role of the scribe Giovannino Cattaneo as both copyist and reviser, and his engagement with the Latin original and the Tuscan version. These findings shed light on linguistic and cultural dynamics in fourteenth-century Venice and on the transmission of classical historiography within a pre-humanist framework.
