| Description | For two and a half millennia, European thought has been permeated by the idea of the world as a harmonious whole. From Pythagoras, it continues through Plato and Aristotle to Augustine and Boëthius, and with Kepler it heads towards the modern age... Can reality be understood as harmony? Can a dissonance become a part of the order? And if the world is "music," who is the "composer"...? The purpose and goal of the lecture will be to introduce the concept of "harmony of the world", as well as to show its fullness and fruitfulness. The starting point for the interpretation will therefore be philosophical, but the lecture will include also musical and literary examples. |
