Description Phraseological units are generally perceived as expressive linguistic means that enrich the communications in which they are found. The natural environment for phraseological units is ordinary speech and also dialects, i.e. substandard forms of the national language. In our work, we focus on how changes occur in the structure of phraseological units precisely when they are used in substandard, i.e. ordinary and speaker-uncontrolled communication. We describe the changes recorded in the phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical (component) plan. We base ourselves primarily on corpus data. The aim is to look at Czech and Croatian phraseology in a confrontational manner. In the theoretical part, we mainly deal with the definition of the variant nature of phraseology.
