Description Brno architect and artist Jaroslav Šmídek (1923–2005) was one of the leading furniture and interior designers of post-war Czechoslovakia. His innovative designs for modular cabinet and kitchen furniture and upholstered seating significantly influenced the composition of products in the Czech furniture industry. In recent years, his name has become known in professional circles and among the general public thanks to the interest in post-war "retro". The exhibition will present him not only as the designer of iconic models, but also as the author of a number of remarkable interiors of public buildings, which he designed as a freelancer. One of the most significant realizations of his designs is the interior of the Scala cinema in Brno. The exhibition was first presented on the technical floor of the Tugendhat Villa in May 2023, then reprised in interiors designed by Šmídka, the cinema in Měnín, Polešovice, and the exhibition hall in Velké Opatovice, and most recently appeared in the Molitor Library in Olomouc. This year, it will be presented in Bystřice pod Hostýnem, commemorating Šmídka's work at the place where seating furniture based on his designs was mass-produced.
