Description The life of man in traditional folk culture has always been associated with the so-called key moments of life, which, in addition to birth and marriage, included departure from this world – death. These moments were associated with ceremonies and customs, which although we classify as family ceremonies, would not have their power without the supervision of the entire community. This also applies to funeral rituals, which on the one hand were conditioned by traditions passed down through generations, and on the other hand developed under the influence of contemporary circumstances and religious principles. In this paper, we will present the form of funeral customs of traditional folk culture of the Czech and Moravian countryside with an emphasis on specific musical expressions, the so-called funeral laments.
