Description Near Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou, several deserted medieval villages are known from historical sources, including Martinice and Johannesdorf. Although Martinice is mentioned in written records as early as the 12th century, its precise location remained unknown for a long time. Recent interdisciplinary research combining airborne laser scanning, surface artefact collection, metal detector survey, historical sources, and geophysical prospection has made it possible to locate the village in a forested area near Emin Château (Emmahof) in the cadastral territory of Šanov (Znojmo District). Ground-penetrating radar survey identified the remains of a masonry structure whose layout and orientation suggest a single-nave church. Analysis of historical maps further showed that the name Johannesdorf refers to the same medieval settlement, renamed in the Early Modern period. The study thus clarifies both the location and historical identity of this long-lost village.
