Description Ondřej Slouk (1738-1818) was a local peasant scribe and small homesteader in the South Moravian rural town of Nosislav. He left behind two notebooks containing valuable chronicle records about his family and local events, witnessing the impact of the reforms of Maria Theresa and Joseph II, or extensive descriptions of the wars with revolutionary and Napoleonic France, including, among other things, recollections of the French occupation of Nosislav before and after the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805. During his lifetime, Ondřej Slouk became an important local figure who not only stood at the birth of the Nosislav Reformed Church community, but also participated in the administration of the village for more than ten years. He is also known as a double religious converter, who first joined the Reformed Church after the publication of the Toleration Patent, but returned to Catholicism six years later. The life story of the Nosislav peasant scribe is also characterized by an unusual rise in wealth and social status. Thanks to his natural intellect and eloquence, the son of lowly servants became a respected and esteemed member of the local community.
