Description This study focuses on the life and theoreticalhistorical contribution to the arts of the professor of archaeology, art history and aesthetics Růžena Vacková (1901–1982). Vacková’s reflections in the field of ancient art and the “visual-force” in dramatic arts are being developed through the lens of two contemporary performance projects that bring the life and ideas of this intellectual to theatre stages. After providing the historical context of Vacková’s fateful peripeteia and the theoreticalhistorical reflection on the essence of art – that is almost inseparable phenomena in case of this persona – the aim of the study is to link her mid-twentieth-century theses with two abovementioned theatre productions: Spis / Růžena Vacková (File / Růžena Vacková; premiere 16 May 2022; Krajinou přílivu Theatre Company), and, Ženy, držte huby! (Women, shut up!; 7 February 2023; JEDL Theatre Company). With the help of those examples and with an emphasis on scenography an attempt is being made to further develop the essence of the concept of “visual-force” in dramatic arts, which Vacková formulated in 1948. At the same time, the study suggests how (whether) it is possible to work with Růžena Vacková’s theoretical approach even today.
