Description Czech architect, urban planner, designer, theorist, and long-time teacher at the Faculty of Architecture in Brno. Bohuslav Fuchs is one of the most important figures of Central European functionalism. His extensive work influenced the appearance of many Czechoslovak cities and forms a pillar of modern Czech architecture. The dramatic events of the 20th century repeatedly entered Bohuslav Fuchs's life, especially during the communist era, which confronted the respected architect with fabricated charges and severed his commissions, business, and academic career. Despite these circumstances, Fuchs's buildings, designed with an extraordinary sense of functionality, layout, space, construction, and overall aesthetics, connected Czechoslovak architecture with the most important centers of modern architecture in Western Europe and the USA. Bohuslav Fuchs was an architect whose work helped shape one of the most significant eras in the history of Czech culture.
