| Description | Tattoos today no longer surprise anyone in the Western world, but within a Christian context they still raise questions and doubts. Why is that? Why, until recently, were tattoos perceived as a problem? And was it always so? The authors return to the beginnings of Christianity and examine the relationship of early Christians to tattooing during the first seven centuries of our era. With the help of archaeological findings and historical texts, they uncover forgotten meanings of bodily markings and offer a reflection on the origins of today’s Christian controversies surrounding the body and faith. |
