Description The exhibition, subtitled “Books and Their Readers Through the Centuries,” offers an insight into the transformations of reading culture from the Middle Ages to the present day and highlights its influence on the history of book culture. Exhibits from the book collections of the Museum of the Brno Region and the library of the Rajhrad Benedictine Abbey are complemented by manuscripts and printed works from the Moravian Library, reflecting the shift from the rarity of books, through their gradual spread, to the modern flood of book production. The selected books represent forms of books typical of their respective periods and reveal how they were read and who their readers were. The exhibition demonstrates how the intended manner and purpose of using books influenced changes in their material, size, and decoration, as well as how modern typography and book design later contributed to their development. Visitors can also observe the traces left in books by generations of readers over the centuries, whether in the form of marginal notes, drawings, keepsakes, or pressed flowers. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of lectures focusing on the history of reading and book culture. A themed interactive playroom for children and adults alike will allow visitors to engage with the topic of reading culture through playful activities and tasks.
