| Description | This chapter examines the phonological aspects of cliticisation, focusing on how phonological and syntactic locality influence the integration of second-position object clitics with a preceding host. Integration is assessed through processes affecting voicing at the object–clitic boundary, namely final obstruent devoicing and pre-sonorant voicing. These external sandhi processes are investigated using reading tasks with Czech speakers, whose readings were recorded and analysed in Praat. The experimental results reveal a statistically significant difference between verbal and adverbial hosts, which we attribute to the fact that only the former establish a local configuration with object clitics. |
