| Description | The paper focused, through three case studies, on three municipalities located in the western agglomeration of Brno (Hvozdec, Javůrek, and Veverské Knínice), where changes have occurred in the venues for local kermesse festivals, particularly over the past 20 years. These changes were caused specifically by the forced closure of Sokol halls and their modern renovations. These changes have affected both the course and the functions of these festivities, and in some cases have even led to the disappearance of certain elements. The paper aims to highlight not only these transformations but also how the participants in the kermesse festivals are coping with them. Although the focus of the paper will primarily be on the present, attention will also be paid to the historical context, which is essential for understanding the current state of affairs. |
