| Description | The paper presents interdisciplinary research into human remains attributed to Henry of Lipá, Provincial Governor of Moravia, who was buried in 1329 in the Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady in Old Brno. Discovered during archaeological research in 1966 and provisionally reburied inside the church in 1991, the remains were recovered again in July 2024 for modern analyses and their subsequent ceremonial return to the original burial place. The research includes anthropological assessment, SfM three-dimensional documentation, radiocarbon dating, ancient DNA and isotope analyses, serial sampling of dental tissues, and examination of dental calculus, mortar, and the underlying cultural layer. Results obtained thus far confirm the presence of one principal, robust individual and the remains of at least four other people. The principal assemblage dates to the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, while isotope analyses indicate a protein-rich diet. Further research will examine kinship, geographical origin, health, pathogens, diet, and lifestyle. The results will be published in academic studies and presented in the documentary miniseries Graves and Tombs 2. |
