| Description | The paper presents the history and current progress of research in the Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady in Old Brno. It follows earlier interventions and archaeological investigations connected with the tomb of Elizabeth Richeza, the burial attributed to Henry of Lipá, and the architectural development of the basilica. Particular attention is devoted to the secondarily deposited remains identified as those of Henry of Lipá. Following their recovery, an initial anthropological assessment, laboratory treatment, and soil sampling were undertaken. Further research may include comprehensive anthropological analysis, radiocarbon dating, DNA analysis, and examination of the relationships between the several individuals represented in the assemblage. The second part addresses a new crypt discovered through ground-penetrating radar survey in the northern aisle in 2023. Its existence was verified by exploratory drilling and camera inspection. The crypt, containing human remains and fragments of wood, was documented through photography, three-dimensional photogrammetry, and laser scanning; microbiological samples were also collected. Further investigation focuses on identifying the structure, determining the number of buried individuals, examining its construction, and documenting the surviving material culture. |
