Keywords Mithraism - exclusion of women
Description This study responds to the recent questioning of the long-standing and widely held scientific consensus that only men were initiated into the Mysteries of Mithras (Jonathan David, The exclusion of women in the Mithraic Mysteries: Ancient or modern?, Numen 47, 2000, 121-41). After the re-examination of all relevant epigraphical finds, literary sources and Mithraic iconography the author of the present study comes to the conclusion that there is no serious reason for the change of current opinions about the exclusion of women from Mithraism.
