Description Fortifications of Greek history have been modified, others ceased to exist. Examples of continuous usage to the early 19th century are Lasissa and Akrokorinth, in the late Middle Age ceased to exist Glarentza and Old Pylos. In Nauplion and Methoné a Venetian fortress was built on the site of an ancient acropolis, Momemvasia and Patras had Byzantine roots, medieval is Chlemutzi castle or the Mistra complex. Remarkable is a similarity among fortifications from 5th-4th centuries BC and late Stauff strongholds.
