| Description | The article is based on the thesis defended in 2010 at the Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. It deals with the access to information for users with special needs in public libraries. The groups of users are defined in broad terms; they include not only people with sensual and physical impairment, but also a wide variety of users with communication disorders and readers suffering from various types of social exclusion – people with low incomes, members of ethnic and language minorities or people providing full-time care to a family member. The recommendations for library services offered to users with special needs are briefly summarised at the end of the article. Detailed references can be found in the original thesis. |
