Autumn marked by celebrations comes to an end

Dear colleagues, students,

Allow me to greet you almost at the very end of the year 2021. Like last year, faculty life this year has been affected by the measures triggered by the ongoing pandemic. I think that we have coped well with the extraordinary challenges of the year ending, although the turbulent times have brought all sorts of situations, attitudes, or opinions, fatigue has grown, and at times it may have seemed to some of us that the light at the end of the tunnel was somewhat lost.

But we must persevere. Even in today's conditions, we are certainly not giving up on all the main things that the faculty should be dedicated to, i.e. quality education, cutting-edge research, and the active role of the faculty in the wider social environment. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to call on all of us not to lose faith and to try to cope with the situation as best we can. It is important that we get through this long and challenging period successfully so that we can move on, strengthened by new experiences, once the crisis has subsided. Together with our colleagues from the Faculty management, we are trying to make sure that the Faculty will cope with this difficult period in all aspects. Our aim is to ensure that study, teaching and research can be carried out in the best possible way with the minimum of restrictions. Thank you to all of you who are really helping to make this happen, perhaps by your helpfulness and sometimes also by your necessary generosity.

In 2021 we marked the centenary of the start of teaching at the Faculty. On this occasion, I awarded several commemorative medals to those who have contributed to the development of the Faculty. Among the awardees were representatives of both academic and non-academic spheres, as I firmly believe that only their cooperation and mutuality can lead to the growth of the faculty as a whole. I thank all those who participated in the anniversary celebrations of the faculty. I am pleased that the entire autumn was marked by major or minor events to commemorate this significant milestone. A special occasion to honor the work of the founding generation was the placement of the plaques of Professor Groh and Professor Novak on the facade of the faculty building.

At the very end of the year, we usually gather for a glass of wine and a friendly debate "On the Steps". We certainly do not intend to break this long-standing tradition, we just need to adapt it again to the current conditions. The pre-Christmas meeting will therefore take place on 15 December at 4:00 PM, at least virtually. You are all cordially invited!

This year we have a Christmas present for each of you from FF MU. This time it is the same as last year, as it was very successful. And just like last year, you should participate in it a little bit yourself so that you can experience the joy of gifting others. The gift is once again A Smile into a Mailbox.

I hope to see many of you together over a pre-Christmas glass of wine. Already, however, let me wish all members of the faculty a peaceful Christmas season and a good New Year in 2022.

Update on the upcoming dean election

The collection of nominations and candidacies has been closed, the envelopes have been unsealed, and it is clear that the faculty will be led by a woman again in the next term after more than twenty years. Read more about the candidates and their programs on the Senate website. You can also discuss with them now in IS MU.
