HR Award – Results of the 2025 questionnaire survey
The results showed that staff at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, view academic freedom, an open working environment, and the transparency of selection procedures positively. At the same time, they identified areas for further development, in particular support for career progression, the administrative burden, and remuneration issues.
At the turn of 2025 and 2026, a questionnaire survey was conducted at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, as part of the preparations for the defense of the HR Excellence in Research (HR Award). The aim was to ascertain how staff in academic and research posts perceive working conditions at our faculty, support for research, career development, and other areas outlined in the European Charter for Researchers, more than 5 years after the award was received.
A total of 196 respondents participated in the survey, representing 38% of those contacted. We would like to thank everyone who shared their experiences and views. The full report on the questionnaire survey is available to staff and PhD students here.
The results show, amongst other things, that staff members rate academic freedom, an open and inclusive working environment, tools promoting research ethics, and the transparency of selection procedures particularly highly. The introduction of a regular appraisal system is viewed positively. The vast majority of staff are aware that Masaryk University has an Ombudsman.
At the same time, the survey identified areas requiring attention in the coming period. These include, in particular, support for career development, administrative and teaching workload, awareness of intellectual property protection and sustainable research, and remuneration issues. The survey results served as one of the bases for proposing new measures to update the HR Award Action Plan for 2026–2029 (new actions Nos. 36–60) and for further improving the working environment at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University.
