Creating categories in the ELF task bank

The contents of the Task Bank can be clearly divided into categories and sub-categories for better orientation and manipulation. If you’re creating a test by randomly generating tasks, you can also ensure that the difficulty level is evenly balanced for all test variants. The following instructions briefly describe how to work with the categories.

To edit or create categories, follow the link in the Test Management/Task Bank/Categories block

In the upper right section, you’ll see the existing categories of all courses and in the context of a specific test. These categories can be edited, deleted, or moved using the icons.

At the bottom of the page you can add new categories.

Select the test, course, or other parent category where you want to create a new category as the parent category. Next, fill in the name of the new category and a description, if applicable.

The hierarchy of tasks within categories can also be manipulated using the Task Bank/Tasks option.

In this section, you can select a specific category and view the tasks that are created in that category. From the drop-down menu, select the category whose contents you want to view or edit. Use the icons next to each task to edit, duplicate, view, or delete the task. To move a task to another category, click on the task, select the target category in the drop-down menu, and then click on Move to.

To add a random task from a category, go to edit test, then click on add random task from task bank. Select the desired question category and confirm.
