Popis | In legal translation, we are dealing not only with different linguistic structures but mainly with systemic differences. Law and legal language are system-bound and each country has a specific legal system. Ideally, a translator of legal texts should have working knowledge not only of specific terminology, but of the law itself—they should be familiar with the underlying legal concepts, institutions and principles. I will use selected examples of students' and fellow translators' translations to demonstrate how ignorance of law and theory of law can result in erroneous translation. |
